During his adolescent years, Tom took to the stage at Ghent-based 'Theater Neon'. This was his very first acting experience.
Since then he played in several short films (for students, artists, etc.) and an NTG production ('Dansen op mijn graf', an adaptation of Aiden Chambers' novel Dance on My Grave directed by Jan Steen).
As a child, Tom used to put the Tom in tomfoolery. As an (active) member of several youth organizations, he was able to cultivate his playful side. But it wasn't all play. He also used this experience to obtain youth animator, head animator and animation instructor certificates.
Education and training:
In high school, long before he carved out an artistic niche for himself, Tom was working on his actual woodworking skills. Completing his woodworking school provided him with a technical secondary education diploma.
Because of his passion for youth work, he ended up in the social sector after his secondary education. Afterwards, Tom obtained a youth and disability care diploma and then became a certified teacher through adult education.
Tom still regularly attends narration and theatre workshops and training.
Turning his hobby into his business:
Tom worked in the social and youth work sector for some time. After business hours, he played the odd acting, narrating or training gig as a (self-employed) artist.
Over time, he was able to fully focus on his career as an artist and navigate the cultural sector freely, no longer bound by a full time job in the social sector. Both as a narrator and as an actor, Tom works for other organizations, as well as for himself.
Childish laughter, an expression of amazement or befuddlement ... touching people. That is what it's all about for him. This what drives him, his source of inspiration …
Tom used his experience in the social sector, along with his passion for narration and the theatre, as the basis for a series of storytelling shows.
